Golden Treasury of Knowledge, Vol. 14

"It is difficult to measure how intelligent an animal is, but crabs seem to act with intelligence. Some of them, for example, place a sea anemone, armed with stinging tentacles, on their shells as a guard. When these crabs fight they hold the sea anemone in their pincers and wave it as a weapon."

"Dromia vulgaris, which is often called the porter crab, carries a sponge on its back."
